Help:Guidelines
From Astro Empires Wiki
General Guidelines
Astro Empires Staff cannot be responsible for wiki content. All articles express the views of its said author(s) and not the game, its creators or staff. Wiki Administrators may delete, edit, protect articles that are deemed to not follow the guidelines as listed below.
Good Faith
Assuming good faith is a fundamental principle on Wikis. Most people try to help the project, not hurt it. When disagreement occurs, explain yourself using talk pages, and give others the opportunity to do the same. Consider whether a dispute stems from different perspectives and look for ways to reach consensus.
When others cast doubt on their own good faith, continue to assume good faith yourself where you can. Be civil and follow dispute resolution processes, rather than attacking editors or edit warring with them. Further attacking or insulting users in articles is not acceptable.
Spam
Articles created must be related to AstroEmpires. Articles on other subjects will be considered spam and removed. Articles and edits which fail to offer anything on the article’s subject will also be considered spam and removed.
Point of View and untrue statements
AEWiki is not a soapbox for you to express your views or feelings on players, guilds or the game. When editing articles confirm you are adding only ‘facts’. Your Point of View (PoV) should be avoided as much as possible. Accusations of cheating also fall under PoV.
The only exceptions to the PoV guidelines are personal history articles and locked guides which are marked as PoV. These articles will be locked to prevent editing; elements in violation of the untrue guidelines can be highlighted in the talk pages and evaluated for editing by Wiki admin.
Untrue statements will be edited / removed by other users or admins. Please save us the trouble.
Links to third party sites
Links to relevant third party websites are permitted, however links to battle calculators, scripts which manipulate AE and inappropriate websites are not. If posted these links will be removed. We encourage linking to Game profiles for notable players and guilds as well as referencing to forum articles.
Player Coordinates
Player and base coordinates are not allowed to be published on the wiki. This is to avoid players / guilds having their bases published without their permission. If you upload images please censor the coordinates and account information.
Astro Empires Suspensions & Warnings
Although the AEWiki is an open forum, discussion of suspensions, warnings and bans from either the AstroEmpires forums or game will not be permitted. If a notable player is removed from the game it may be stated that they were and the reason for the ban, but details and discussion of said warning, suspension, banning will not be permitted.
Language
AEWiki is an English language Wiki and as such should only have English language articles. Small portions of another language are permitted as long as they are accompanied with a translation.
Images
Images can be uploaded onto the Wiki but must be related to AstroEmpires and tied to at least 1 article. If you cannot connect the image to an article then there is no point in uploading it. Images which are not tied to any articles are known as Orphaned images. Inappropriate and orphaned images will be removed.
When posting images in articles try to avoid excessive size and use the thumbnail option where possible. If you are unsure how to do this check out our help pages.
Deletion and Templates
Deleting all content from pages (Articles and Talkpages) is entirely unacceptable. This is the same as deleting a page itself which should only be done by an admin. In addition once a template has been added, particularly the Notability Template should NOT be removed by ordinary users. If you do not agree with it then explain why in the pages talk page or discuss it with an Admin.
Notability guidelines
The Notability guidelines are guidelines as to what guilds, players, battles and wars are deemed notable enough to have their own Wiki page. Pages that do not meet these guidelines will be removed. Users can challenge the notability of a guild, player, war or battle, challenge notability guidelines below explain how.
Guild notability– A guild is considered notable if it is active within the top 100 on any server. Deceased guilds are considered notable if they were involved in a notable war or had a widely agreed affect on the server.
Player notability – players that have had a well known influence on the server, or had a important participation in a notable war are considered notable. Further to this players whom are currently a Guild master (GM) of a guild meeting notability standards or ex-GM after being GM for over 100 days. Vice leaders are also considered notable if their guild meets notability standards. Finally players well known from their activities on the forums are also considered notable.
War notability – A war is considered notable if it involved 2 or more top 10 guilds, or more than 5 lower than top 10 guilds. Wars that had a widely agreed affect on the server are also considered notable.
Battle notability – Battles with a profound effect on a war meeting war notability standards are considered notable. We don’t want to hear about the 300k cruiser battle of Terra289.
Challenging Notability
When you read an article on a war, player, battle or guild which you do not feel meets the notability standards listed above you can challenge it. To challenge an articles notability do the following,
- Add {{notability}} to the top of the article.
- This will add the 'notability being challenged' template to the top of the article and add it to a special category to track articles which are being challenged.
- Enter the articles Discussion page and post a new header, ==Notability Challenged==, and why you feel this article doesn't meet standards. This will begin a discussion.
- After 7 days an admin will review the arguments for and against the article and make the final decision as to whether the article meets or fails guidelines.
Anyone can challenge an articles notability and anyone can get involved in a notability discussion. If you add this template please keep a personal note of the page and check back to make sure the template has not been removed. Some users will attempt to remove the template, if so report this directly to an admin.
