Not uncommon in strong, high-ranked guilds with large memberships, a spy is a guild member who is only in the guild to collect information for another. Spies find out secret information such as guild strategies and base locations and relay this information to rival guilds and empires. When the guild they have infiltrated is planning an attack, spies can also tip off the guild they are attacking so they can prepare.

Spies are a large risk after the assimilation of rival guilds. Assimilation builds the ranks of guild membership, but members' loyalties may be in question if their membership was the result of hostile pressure.

Eliminating Spies

The major headache is that if a mole is suspected to have infiltrated the guild then they're incredibly diffucult to get rid of. If rival guilds seem to always be ready for attacks, and start attacking previously hidden bases belonging to the guild, it is obvious there is a spy in the guild. However, it is nearly impossible to find out who the spy is. Only by selectively posting information on the boards can you limit the damage done by a spy, but this still doesn't eliminate them.

The only method of discovering a mole is by using messages for certain members of the guild inviting/notifying them of a false attack somewhere were no backup is normally available from the rival guild. By systematically using this strategy and checking who was online at the right times, spies can be discovered. However this can be very time consuming in a guild with a large number of members.
