What do you do with Astros

Astros are the building blocks of your empire. You build your bases on Astros which become your territory. It is not possible to have more than one player colonise a single Astro but multiple players can be in the same system which can make wars much more interesting.

Each type of Astro has its own unique characteristics which can make them desirable for some uses while untouchable for others. Knowing the difference between which Astros are good for what can make all the difference when starting in the game.

Location

An unknown World

An Astro's location is a series of numbers that look like this: B11:22:33:45. The "B" signifies the server in which the Astro is located, in this case Beta Server. The "11" signifies the galaxy, the "22" signifies the region, and "33" signifies the system. "4" indicates which orbital the Astro is in, and "5" denotes its position within that orbital. For more information on how the universe and galaxies are set out look at the Celestial Map.

Unknown Worlds

When a Astro is in a region you do not have a ship or base in you are unable to see the details of the Astro or base. This is often referred to as the fog of war. Thus the image of the Astro comes up with a ‘?’ image. If you want to see what type of Astro it is send a ship into that region.

There is an exception if you have set a trade route with a planet in a different region, however it only allows you to see the system of the planet you are trading with or you are looking at one of your guild member's astros.

Astro Stats

Each Astro has its own set of stats. These are determined by the type of Astro, whether it is a planet, Asteroid or Moon and its Orbital. For more information on which planet type does what see the Astro Type|Astro types section.

The stats of one of many astros

Area

Area is the amount of space you have on your Astro. Each building with the exception of Orbital Shipyards, Terraforms, Multi-Level Platforms, Orbital bases, Jumpgates and Planetary Rings take up 1 unit of area. This area can be anything from 65 to 95 depending on what type of Astro you have chosen. Area is not set as you can use Terraform and Multi-level Platforms to increase the space on your Astro.

Solar

Solar is the amount of solar power your planet gets from your systems sun. This can be utilised by Solar Plants into Power which you use to keep your base running. The solar rating of your base is dependent on its Orbit. On the first orbit its solar value is 4, 3 in the second and continues like this until 0. There is no way to improve the base Solar of your planet.

Fertility

Fertility is the amount your base's population will rise with each level of Urban Structures. Each structure on your Astro takes up a single unit of population with exception to Urban Structures, Orbital Bases, Terraforms and Multi-level Platforms. Biosphere Modifications can raise your fertility. Astros in the second and third orbitals get +1 base fertility.

Metal

Metals are sometimes described as an arrangement of positive ions surrounded by a cloud of delocalized electrons. They are one of the three groups of elements as distinguished by their ionization and bonding properties, along with the metalloids and non-metals. Metal is the base amount your Production and Construction will rise with each level of Metal Refineries. This amount will be modified by 5% for each level of Cybernetics researched. Metal is dependent on the planet type, and can vary from 1 to 3 metal. There is no way to improve the base Metal of your planet.

Gas

In physics, a gas is a state of matter, consisting of a collection of particles (molecules, atoms, ions, electrons, etc.) without a definite shape or volume that are in more or less random motion. Gas is the base amount of power that will be produced by each level of Gas Plants. The Gas rating of your base is dependent on its Orbit and the type of planet you have selected. Planets in the 4th and 5th orbital get +1 to Gas. There is no way to improve the base Gas of your planet

Crystals

A crystal or crystalline solid is a solid material whose constituent atoms, molecules, or ions are arranged in an orderly repeating pattern extending in all three spatial dimensions. The process of crystal formation via mechanisms of crystal growth is called crystallization or solidification. Crystals are a resource used to boost economy. With each level of Crystal Mines your economy will be raised by the value of the Crystals. The crystal value of an astro is dependent on it's type and can range from 0 to 3. Crystalline astros are the only astro with 3 crystal thus making them rare in the universe. There is no way to improve the base Crystal of your planet.

Planets vs Moons

All habitual astros excluding asteroids come in two types. The Planet and Moon. Planets have more area than the moon of the same type however moons get a 50% discount of Planetary Rings and Planetary Shields. This makes defence a lot cheaper and quicker to build up on Moons however of course you have less space which will increase your Terraform and Multi-level Platforms costs. Due to the limit on Terraforming and Multi-level Platforms for free accounts, planets are often more favorable. This limit does not apply to upgraded players increasing the chance of an upgraded player colonizing a moon.

Astro Types

Arid

An Arid type World

Identical to Tundra. Can be used as research or jump gate bases due to large area and relatively high fertility. Even so, many players prefer to use Gaia for research and Toxic, Volcanic or Magma for jump gates.
Possible Starter Base.

Asteroid

An Asteroid type World

Two crystal coupled with Biosphere Modification, Planetary Shields and Planetary Rings costing significantly less than on other astros makes Asteroids a common target for economic bases. The 3 metal allows players to use them as production-economy hybrids. The small area makes these bases substantially less effective for free accounts.

Craters

A Craters type World

Craters can be used as production bases if no free Rocky or Metallic astros can be found. New players are advised not to build Crystal Mines as the area would better serve Metal Refineries which provide the same economic boost as well as +3 to production and construction.

Crystalline

A Crystalline type World

The most coveted of all Astros (many players regularly try to buy and sell them on the forum - which is not allowed); despite the low fertility and area. They are used solely as economic bases because of their high crystal level. As well as having the highest crystal level of any astro, they are rare and quickly colonised by players which is why they are so coveted. Some players advocate getting as many crystalline bases as possible, but some think the compromise on fertility, area and metal (compared to a rocky astro) isn't worth the economic boost.

Earthly

An Earthly type World

Inferior version of the Gaia astro. Rarely used and generally disliked.

Gaia

A Gaia type World

Ideal research base due to high fertility and high area.

Glacial

A Glacial type World

One of the two worst astros in the game (the other being Oceanic). Lower fertility and higher area than it's counterpart. To be avoided regardless of high area, the low metal makes it worthless.

Magma

A Magma type World

Identical to Volcanic. Make good jump gate bases because of high gas and high fertility. Aim for Orbital 4 or 5 where possible for maximum Gas. Magma, Toxic and Volcanics are the only astros capable of getting 5 Gas.

Metallic

A Metallic type World

The same as craters only with a higher gas level. Used as production bases when Rockies are unavailable. New players are advised not to build Crystal Mines as the area would better serve Metal Refineries which provide the same economic boost as well as +3 to production and construction.

Radioactive

A Radioactive type World

Radioactive astros are sometimes used as research base because of decent gas and high area. This is inadvisable as Gaia, Earthly, Arid or Tundra have higher fertility with only Earthly having lower area.
Possible Starter Base.

Rocky

A Rocky type World

Rocky astros are widely considered the best production astros in the game thanks to high metal, high fertility and good area. They also make excellent all-round bases providing research capacity, economy and production. Rockies are the ideal astro type for free accounts.

(I21:55:64:10)right When I first got a chance, to go to what was not bombarded from space on my mothers home world. Only because it was in a shielded valley out of sit of the normal trade routs. This valley pass that was hidden was from my grandfather as i was told by my mother at the time of the bombarded from space he had took some droids with him and caved in the side of the mountain he had token a Radio jamming device that he had made from scratch that used the - + forces of the land as a power source to power it and some of the {ore} . that was only visible from the top of the next valley to the right on the right side of the house she grow up in the court yard was were she had toking me only once when I was little it was strange, that on my fathers map it was there I never understood why it was hidden there in-tell I got to the spot it was against the north side of the court yard I had my scanner with me and still the opening did not show up I had never had of energy pulse that the scanner would not pick up it was the best on the marked and it had integrated in to it Doppler On Wheels, NEXRAD, Terminal Doppler Weather Radar, and ARMOR Doppler Weather Radar and with all dads toys it did not show up. Did not hit he at first and when it did I started to laugh out load its was my dads CO. that sly dog he was telling me when I was growing up tell the truth that old dog should had given me some of his tricks it would had made it easier on me and all the things i had to do in order to build on to the work at hand i had known as time-averaging. Because of the slow and episodic nature of the geologic record, two apparently contemporaneous may have actually centuries, or even apart. Moreover, the degree of time averaging and this hiding spot was there in the time of his fathers fathers time.So I could see that by the looks of it my father at least to this put did not add madivicationsmy to the alter door way after this long is still look at it with an agest eye how could now it could had been rigged or a trap after all these years how could now it was the first time ive been here after my dad had died some of the droids i had set to look around --Kevo1cat971 02:17, 24 May 2011 (UTC)right
